My 16th Birthday In New York

11:18 am

When my Mum and Dad asked what I wanted to do for my birthday this year, my reply was "Shopping". To make my 16th a bit more special, my Mum and Dad decided to book a holiday to New York so I could spend my birthday in the big apple. We've been to New York twice before, but I was still really excited!

We traveled with American Airlines , which was ok apart from a few things that let the company down. American Airlines provided food and drinks on the plane. For the main meal you could choose from Chicken and rice or Spinich Pasta. I'm Vegetarian so I had the pasta. For the last snack on the flight they served everyone a ham sandwich. We did ask for a vegetarian option but they said the snacks were all the same, so I didn't eat it. On the flight coming home, the main meal was either chicken or lasagne. The lasagne was horrible and full of water.

This time we stayed at The New Yorker Hotel which is located on 8th Avenue and 34th Street, south of Times Square. It is such a lovely hotel and all the staff are really helpful. Our room was an average size with two double beds. You get an iron, hairdryer, TV and a safe, but no mini bar. The New Yorker also provides each guest with free wifi. There is a restaurant in the Hotel called The Tick Tock Diner which serves food all day round, so you don't have to get there for a certain time. They even have a doorman that will happily go out and shout a taxi for you.

We spent most of our holiday shopping, as we did all the sight seeing the last two times we went. New York is a big place, so I recommend that you get a metro card when you arrive so that you can easily hop on and off subways in the evening when your feet are getting tired and need a rest. It's also a good idea to pick up a map either at the Visitors Centre in Times Square or in a Subway Station to help you get around.

My Mum, Dad and Sister surprised me with a 20 minute helicopter ride around Central Park and the Statue of Liberty, which was really good! The staff let me sit in the front of the helicopter with the driver because it was my Birthday. I must admit though, being in the front was a little scary! You got some amazing views from the helicopter and I would recommend booking the ride, however it is expensive. Never the less, if that tour does't sound right for you, there are a variety of great trips and tours to book that range in price.

Some of my favourite places to eat in New York are the Max Brenner - Chocolate by the bald guy Restaurant, Papa John's Pizzeria , Mr K's Chinese Restaurant and Pax for breakfast. They are all lovely restaurants and serve a range of different meals to suit everyone. Please be aware that the Max Brenner Restaurant gets really busy so you would be better booking a table when you arrive.

Overall I really loved spending my 16th Birthday in New York, I had such a great time!

Google said Happy Birthday!
